TRAINING FOR ABORIGINAL AND TORRES STRAIT ISLANDER AUSTRALIANS

CHANCES – Community Helping Aboriginal Australians to Negotiate Choices leading to Employment and Success
CHANCES is a great support and training program that helps Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians (living in the ACT) to gain skills and access services to help them make choices leading to a life that includes having a job, being financially independent and a stronger sense of being part of the community.

The program provides participants with access to nationally accredited training, coaching and mentoring, plus a range of non-accredited self-confidence boosting and fun activities to engender a sense of purpose and ‘belonging’.

Support services provided to participants include:

  • childcare / after school activities and Homework Club assisted by tutors
  • transport to and from Belconnen
  • FREE family dinner twice a week
  • mentoring by members from the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community
  • access to range of other service providers and organisations in a friendly environment.

CHANCES is a collaboration between Capital Careers, Northside Community Services, Office of Multicultural, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Affairs – ACT Community Services Directorate, TEMPlar Recruitment Services, ACT Community Policing, ACT Aboriginal Justice Centre and the ACT Indigenous Elected Body.

Funding for the training component of this program has been contributed by the ACT Education and Training Directorate.
