This Certificate 3 level, aged care course – CHC33015 Certificate 3 in Individual Support Ageing is delivered at Parramatta. It reflects the role of workers in the community to care for aged person or elderly and/or residential setting who follow an individualised plan to provide person-centered support to aged people or elderly who may require support due to ageing, disability or some other reason. Work in these aged care facility involves using discretion and judgement in relation to individual support as well as taking responsibility for own outputs.  After completion of this Certificate 3 in Individual Support Ageing course, support workers will have a range of factual, technical and procedural knowledge, as well as some theoretical knowledge of the concepts and practices required to provide person-centered support.

Licensing/Regulatory Information

No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this Certificate III in Individual Support Ageing at the time of publication. However, all students will be required to have a working with vulnerable people and police check before commencing work placement.

Entry Requirements

  • Good understanding of English
  • School certificate or equivalent (Grade 10)
  • 18 years of age

Total number of units = 13

7 core units  plus
6 elective units, of which:

  • All electives from Group A must be chosen for ageing specialty.
  • if not listed below, 1 unit may be from any currently endorsed Training Package at Certificate III level or above OR any accredited course at Certificate 3 level.

Elective units must be relevant to the work environment and the qualification, maintain the integrity of the AQF alignment and contribute to a valid, industry-supported vocational outcome.

Work Placement

All students must complete a minimum of 120 hours of work experience in a regulated aged care facility to be deemed competent for Certificate III in Individual Support Ageing.

How long will it take?

Duration of the course is dependent on training delivery mode, individual experience and skills. Students are required to complete a volume of learning of 1200 hours comprising of guided learning, individual study assessments and work placement. Generally the course will take anywhere between 6 months and a year to complete.

Capital Careers has an obligation to recognise Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) qualifications and Statements of Attainment issued by other registered training organisations

Assessment

This aged care course, Certificate III in Individual Support Ageing, will be presented in competency-based mode and the student’s competency will be assessed at all levels according to competencies and performance criteria. The training package for each competency specifies the conditions and method of assessment. Assessment methods range from completing set tasks and activities, class attendance and participation and completion of assignments / projects.
